«Работа с текстом «Змеевская Балка». Тестовые задания.»
Melnikova Inga Ivanovna
When I was still a teenager, I had the honor of standing in the honor guard on Victory Day at the "Zmievskaya Balka". From the stories of the teachers of my school, I learned about the great tragedy of the Don Land. It was only years later that I realized all the pain that permeated this place.
In my hometown of Rostov-on-Don, there is a memorial complex "Zmievskaya Balka", it is dedicated to the residents of the city, prisoners of the Red Army, tortured and killed by the German fascists. It was opened in 1975. "Zmievskaya Balka" is now known to many people in the Rostov region. The history of this place before the war was quite inconspicuous, it was called "Gordacha-10". Not far away was the highway, popularly called Chaltyrskaya, and the railway tracks.
According to archival documents, in1941, about 30 thousand residents of Jewish nationality lived in the city. In November 1941, the Fascist troops managed to take over the city, they were able to hold it for only eight days, but even these days were enough to inflict an irreparable blow on the city. Thousands of people were shot and tortured.
Later, on August 9, an order was issued, signed by the chief of the SS Sonderkommando 10-a Hertz, which ordered all persons of Jewish nationality to gather in special assembly points. All were lined up in columns in rows and driven to the "Zmeevskaya Balka", where hundreds of Soviet prisoners of war were previously dug trenches, in which they were then shot. People walked without anticipating the fate that awaited them. It’s scary to imagine what the fathers and mothers were thinking when they were leading their children. The only fault they all had was that they were Jews. People walked in silence, hoping until the last minute that the ultimate injustice could not be committed.
From 15 to 18 thousand Jews were killed and shot here. "Zmievskaya Balka" became the place of execution. Here thousands of prisoners of war, the party and Komsomol members of Rostov, the militia, Armenians, Kurds, Assyrians, Gypsies, whom the fascists considered inferior people, found their rest. The executions continued throughout the occupation.
After the liberation of Rostov-on-Don, it was established that 27 thousand people were killed in the Balka, 15-18 thousand of them Jews. In the 50s, a monument was erected on the "Zmievskaya Beam". In the 70s, a memorial was created here at the expense of city enterprises, which included a museum with the collected materials. In the 90s, the entire complex fell into disrepair. In 2009, the memorial was restored. A sign was installed with the inscription that 27 thousand civilians of the city and prisoners of war rest here. Until now, "Zmievskaya Balka" keeps in itself the pain of the past, which we will never forget, and we have no right to do it.
