Систему типовых интерактивных упражнений, направленную на формирование и совершенствование уровня владения английской фразеологией и идиоматикой условно можно разделить на две группы:
1) лексические упражнения подготовительного характера;
2) речевые упражнения.
Основываясь на данном делении, можно выделить следующие этапы работы над изучением фразеологизмов.
1. Ознакомительный этап.
2. Первичная отработка ФЕ.
3. Употребление ФЕ в монологической и диалогической речи.

Систему типовых интерактивных упражнений, направленную на формирование и совершенствование уровня владения английской фразеологией и идиоматикой условно можно разделить на две группы:
1) лексические упражнения подготовительного характера;
2) речевые упражнения.
Основываясь на данном делении, можно выделить следующие этапы работы над изучением фразеологизмов.

Ex. 1. Match Russian and English idioms with the same meaning and say which animal is presented in both languages English equivalent Russian equivalent
1) blind as a bat a. как белка в колесе
2) as a hog on ice b. слепой как крот
3) slippery as an eel c. сильный как бык
4) strong as a horse d. как корова на льду
5) busy as a bee e. скользкий как уж
Ex. 2. Find a Russian equivalent to the following idioms. Are the images similar in two languages? Try to guess why.
1) as dumb as a fish;
2) change horses in the midstream;
3) in at one ear and out at the other;
4) if you run after two hares, you will catch neither;
5) go through fire and water;
6) an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth;
7) it is written all over his face.
Ex. 3. Use the idioms to complete the sentences: fair and square; on the alert; to a high degree; from A to Z; catch-as-catch-can
1. She knew Hudson as a slight, middle aged man; his manner restrained, polished ____.
2. I won that election _________, and I’m not about to step down for anyone.
3. We went hitch hiking for a week and lived _________.
4. This book tells the story of her life ____.
5. They felt much as if they were piloting a great ship through a dangerous channel; they were ______ constantly, and found their office no child’s play.
Ex. 4. Choose a partner and make up a short dialogue using the following idioms:
keep one’s tongue between one’s teeth,
give someone the benefit of the doubt,
to make matters worse,
have a heart-to-heart talk with someone,
straight from the horse’s mouth.
Ex. 5. Look at the picture. Describe it as if it were your friends and you. In your speech use idioms to express your happiness and joy.
