I was there on 9/11
Imagine being present during 9/11 attacks. I’ve tried to put myself in the shoes of one of the witnesses.
The events of that day shaped the world we live in today and will continue to shape the future. It completely changed people’s and government’s attitude to questions of security and safety. Many people who witnessed or were directly impacted by the attacks continue to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health issues.
How would I describe this event as a witness?
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, I was working on the fourth floor of another World Trade Center, located adjacent to the Twin Towers. I witnessed the attacks firsthand, seeing the planes crash into the buildings and the chaos and destruction that followed. It was a surreal experience, one that I will never forget. The shock and horror of the attacks left me speechless, as I couldn’t believe that was actually happening in front of my eyes.
All the emergency services of the city rushed to the buildings to try to rescue those trapped inside, while others worked to evacuate the surrounding area. The time seemed to have sped up and stopped at once. I felt sorry for the all the victims, but more I was thinking about my family, how lucky I was that I wasn’t there at the time of this attack. In moments like this, one really starts to rethink and reanalyze the whole life, as if they have just been diagnosed with some deadly disease. Perhaps in the state of shock, some odd thoughts started to cross my mind: I decided to radically change my way of living: to spend more time on myself and loved ones, to spend more money for pleasant things. I actually decided to fill every moment of my life with a memorable experience, so I would have had no regrets in the face of death.
Remember to value life and devote time to what is truly important, we never know what happens next.
